[community profile] sutcliff_swap signups will open on Feb 29! See the full schedule here.

Signups are on AO3 this year. If you haven't taken a look at the tagset yet, please do, and let us know in the comments if there are any works not on the list that you want added. These should be works that you plan to request--we aren't trying to create a comprehensive tagset of all Sutcliff sources.

We need everyone's help in getting the word out about the fest, so please snag one of the banners below and pimp the fest to your flist. Also mention it on Discord, Tumblr, or your other fannish haunts!

It's time to start brushing up on your lyrical descriptions of the British countryside and pondering new hound metaphors because [community profile] sutcliff_swap will be running again this year! Signups open on February 29th. For the full schedule, see this post

I'm very excited to be modding the exchange again with [personal profile] isis . If you are new to the swap or need a refresher on the rules and FAQs, you can view them on AO3 here. The basics are that fic needs to be at least 1,000 words, art needs to be a finished piece, and that works must be set in canon or canon-AU only. No modern AUs, space-age AUs, etc. Also note that the 2011 movie Eagle of the Ninth is not eligible, although the book definitely is.

This year, we're going to be doing signups through AO3 and are creating a tagset for the various canons. We will only be pre-seeding tags for the canons, not characters, as there are too many to make that feasible, particularly as minor characters often get requested. We'll still be hand-matching as well. We've already put in many of the canons that usually get requested for the Swap. But to ensure that we capture all the canons that people think they might like to request, please go take a look at the current tagset here. If there is a work missing that you would like added, let us know in a comment to this post. Note that we are not trying to make it a comprehensive list of every Sutcliff work, but rather a list of the works that people want to request for the exchange.

We'll do a pimping post with banners soon, but don't hesitate to publicize the exchange. We'd love to attract as many people as possible!

Ask any questions in comments to this post, and again, take a look at the tags.

[community profile] sutcliff_swap  is back this year!! Signups open March 18. You can see the full schedule here.

As a reminder, or for those who have never participated, Sutcliff Swap is a multifandom exchange for fanfiction and fanart based on the childrens' and adult novels and short stories of British historical fiction author Rosemary Sutcliff. While perhaps best known for her novels of Roman Britain, Sutcliff's works spanned settings from c. 2000-1000 BCE to the 19th century Ottoman Empire.

(We do not permit fanworks based on the 2011 movie The Eagle, or on the Eagle of the Ninth radioplay or BBC series, the BBC Blood Feud series, or any other adaptations for this exchange. However, works based on the books Eagle of the Ninth and Blood Feud are extremely welcome.)

This exchange is also for stories set during the canonical era of the source--which means AU from canon events is fine, but please save the modern and science fiction AUs for other venues.

If you do not feel you can sign up for the exchange this year, you can still sign up as a potential pinch hitter, beta someone's art or story, or create treats.

Your mods this year will be [personal profile] riventhorn and [personal profile] isis

As a reminder, we are no longer running a mirror of the exchange on the LJ comm, although a few announcements may be posted there.

We hope to see some familiar faces participating and also welcome new people as well!! Please feel free to spread the word!

Tomorrow, June 1st, is the deadline for posting your Sutcliff Swap assignment. Works should be posted to the 2015 Collection on AO3 - don't forget to fill in the name of your recipient. If you have any questions about how to post, please email either of the mods (riventhorn or isiscolo) @gmail.com.

If you're doing treats, those can be posted up until June 7 (and the collection will remain open for treat posting), but please make sure that your assignment has been posted by tomorrow. In practical terms, this means when I wake up on Tuesday morning, typically 6 am MDT, I will check for missing assignments and start looking for pinch hitters if needed. Just a reminder that the deadline for your fanworks is Monday, June 3. Functionally, this means whenever I wake up on June 4, so just use midnight in your timezone as the deadline. Please post your fanwork to the 2013 collection using the "Post to Collection" button, being sure to fill in your assigned or treat recipient. If you have not posted to AO3 before and have trouble, send me a PM or an email (caerfyrddin AT gmail DOT com) and I'll dig up a tutorial.

The archive will open June 10, giving us all a week for pinch hits if we need them, and final edits and treats if you're so inclined.

If you have made a pinch hit, please comment to this post with a few requests--we'd like to make sure our pinch hitters have a treat or two for their awesome work!

I failed to completely edit last year's assignment letters, so they have an INCORRECT deadline. If you need to check the exchange schedule and due date, please refer to the sticky post at the top of the comm.

Assignments are due June 3, 2013.

Apologies for my tardiness in posting this and getting the rules updated. I am a fail!mod. Working on it now, promotional banners soon.

1. Schedule and Pinch-Hitting

The schedule for Sutcliff Swap 2013 has been determined as follows:

Signups: April 8-14
Matching and assignments go out: April 22 (or earlier)
Creation period: April 22-June 3
Default deadline: May 20
Fanwork deadline: June 3
Pinch hit deadline: June 9
Archive opens: June 10

There will be no creator reveal, since per the result of the community polls we have decided to open the collection with names attached. This also means artists will be responsible for their own image hosting.

After May 26, [personal profile] isis will be unable to answer emails, so all mod questions after that point should be addressed to [personal profile] carmarthen (caerfyrddin AT gmail DOT com), who will also be handling pinch hit coordination this year.

[personal profile] carmarthen and I are currently in the planning stage for Sutcliff Swap 2013. Based on the wrap-up poll from last year (and our own schedules) we are planning to move the Swap earlier in the year; we also have a few other changes we'd like input on.

Please only vote if you are thinking about participating this year. (You can participate even if you're only familiar with a single Sutcliff book!) This poll is being posted to both LJ and DW; please vote at only one site.

For simplicity, the full schedule options are not listed in the poll, but each assumes one week for sign-ups, with assignments made one week later; six weeks for creating artwork or a 1000-word minimum story, and one week between due date and archive opening in order to allow time for pinch hitters. Two weeks separate each option. If none of these work for you, or if you'd like to suggest something else, feel free to comment with your restrictions and preferences. Here are the full schedule options:

Sign up Feb 25-Mar 3, assignments by Mar 11, due April 22th, open April 29th
Sign up Mar 11-Mar 17, assignments by Mar 25, due May 6, open May 13th
Sign up Mar 25-Mar 31, assignments by Apr 8, due May 20th, open May 27th (or 28th, as 27th is Memorial day)
Sign up Apr 8-14, assignments by Apr 22, due June 3, open June 10

Please make your choices before February 3.

We would like to make it easy for participants to write treats if they choose. We will have publicly posted 'dear creator' letters linked from a central place. Would you also like us to make signups public (as Yuletide does) or prefer to keep them private?

1. Signups for [community profile] sutcliff_swap close Friday, June 15! This is your chance to change your signup if you wish to do so, or sign up if you haven't already.

2. The Beta Post (on LJ; DW users can use OpenID or anonymous commenting) is no longer a placeholder! If you're interested in betaing fic and/or art for [community profile] sutcliff_swap, this is the place to let people know. You do not have to be a participant in the exchange.

3. Since it's sort of buried in the policies post, no, you do not have to be a participant in the exchange to be a pinch hitter--and since this is a small multifandom exchange with many out of print sources, the more potential pinch hitters, the better.

Signing up to pinch hit does not commit you to anything--it's just an indication of interest.

If you are not a participant but are interested in pinch-hitting, please email [personal profile] isis at isiscolo AT gmail DOT com with the following information:

  • your AO3 user name

  • fandoms/character restrictions

  • whether you can create fiction, art, or both

Okay, I think that's it. Signups are looking awesome and we're really excited--thank you to everyone who's decided to participate!
